We were asked to perform a site investigation at an unreinforced masonry hospital building at Fort Lewis. After our investigation, we gave an analysis that included a design that was blast-resistant for the unreinforced structure, repair recommendations, and recommendations for seismic retrofits.
Our analysis and subsequent design were complicated because we could not alter the exterior of the building, but we still needed to ensure it was blast-resistant, enabled seismic retrofits, and remained operational after the new repairs. It was quite a challenge for us, and we were happy to undertake it at Fort Lewis!
